COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – After several months of cheaper gas prices, Michigan residents are officially paying more to fill up their tanks than this time last year and prices keep going up as the switch to summer gasoline has begun.
Michigan’s average is $2.59 a gallon this week, 7 cents more than a week ago, 22 cents higher than last month and now 3 cents more than a year ago.
AAA spokesperson Adrienne Woodland says increasing demand and tightening supply is to blame.
Prices at some stations in the Coldwater area spiked to $2.85 Monday. According to www.gasbuddy.com, that’s almost 60 cents higher than a couple of stations in the Angola, Indiana area, where gas is still selling for as low as $2.24 a gallon.
It’s even cheaper in Sturgis, where gas at one station was selling for $2.08 a gallon Monday night.
