COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Branch County Sheriff John Pollack told the county Board of Commissioners during their work session Tuesday that thanks in part to two vacant positions, his department had over 344 hours of overtime for corrections officers during February 2019.
Corrections officers in Branch County’s Tier Two pay system start at about $13.84 per hour. Pollack said there have been two applications for the openings, and he would like to see the pay scale increased.
He added three staff members are out on long term sick leave at least until this summer. Another is on light duty.
A retirement coming up this summer will put a further strain on the department.
Pollack said he is not getting any requests for applications at this point. He is hoping for a bump in Tier Two pay the next time Commissioners negotiate with unions.
