MADISON, WI (WTVB) – An annual report from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the University of Wisconsin’s Population Health Institute shows Branch County is 45th among Michigan’s 83 counties in overall health.
The 2019 County Health Findings report is intended to show that where we live makes a difference in how well and how long we live.
Senior Program officer Aditi Vaidya says the counties were ranked on education, poverty, obesity, and smoking rates.
While Branch County was ranked 28th for Quality of Life, it scored poorly for health behaviors as it was 67th out of 83 counties with 35 percent of adults in the county considered to be obese. In addition, 28 percent do not take in any sort of physical activity.
The report shows Calhoun County as one of the most unhealthiest places in Michigan as it was ranked 78th out of the 83 counties. Hillsdale County was ranked 44th while St. Joseph County was ranked 55th.
