COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Community Schools Board of Education approved a recommendation from Superintendent Terry Boguth Monday night to accept proposals from Compliance One of Kalamazoo to make district buildings more safe and secure.
The action comes after a task force from the State of Michigan issued a series of recommendations for school safety last November.
Boguth said during last month’s meeting that each district has to have a physical security assessment done by October 2019 using a state approved assessment tool.
There are a total of 29 recommendations that have been made by the task force for schools to implement.
Board member Nick Krzeminski said the district doesn’t have the staff to implement this.
Compliance One of Kalamazoo has worked with Marshall Public Schools on their emergency operation plans, which Boguth said were very detailed.
Compliance One offered a quote of over $33,000 for an emergency operation plan. Grants are available for local districts to help offset the costs.
Boguth also announced that demolition of the former Little League diamonds on Western Avenue, which will be the site of the new fourth and fifth grade school building, will start April 1, 2019. She added the groundbreaking ceremony for the new building has been scheduled for April 17.
