COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – An alleged assault on a Michigan State Police trooper in Branch County almost 2 years ago resulted in the arrest of a suspect in the case this past weekend.
State Police say 38-year old Timothy Jester of Holt, Michigan was picked up by troopers Saturday at the La Porte County Jail in northwest Indiana and returned to Coldwater, where he was booked at the Branch County jail. Jester was arraigned Sunday in District Court on multiple counts including obstructing and assaulting a police officer, possession of cocaine and delivery and manufacture of methamphetamine.
According to State Police, it was on June 30, 2017 when they were dispatched to check on a report of a two car crash on I-69 north of Jonesville Road. Troopers said they learned that a southbound car driven by Jester had crossed through the median and struck a northbound vehicle.
A female passenger in Jester’s vehicle suffered minor injuries. State Police said Jester had exited his car after the collision and allegedly assaulted a trooper when he was attempting to arrest the suspect.
State Police also said Jester admitted using cocaine right before the crash happened. A warrant for his arrest was signed August 30, 2018.
Jester is being held on $75,000 bond and is due back in District Court for a probable cause hearing April 4, 2019
