COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – After months of searching, the Branch County Road Commission Board may have found their next Engineer and Manager.
The board voted Thursday to offer the position to Jay Mille,r who currently works for the Steuben County Planning Commission office.
Board Chair Bob Mayer said as of Friday morning, Miller has not decided whether or not he will accept the offer.
Expressing a desire to work in his family farming business, Trent Arver said last October he would be leaving the Road Commission.
He was planning to leave in January but the search for his replacement has taken longer than expected. The original application deadline was November 30, 2018.
But for one reason or another, the position has not been filled. Mayer said they had a ton of applications but many of them were not qualified for the position.
The job posting said applicants had to have a Bachelor degree in business administration with construction experience or a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering; or equivalent; with 5-10 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Applicants had to have a knowledge of roads, bridge construction, maintenance, finance and budgeting. They would also be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the road commission and county parks.
The salary was listed as being between $75,000 and $85,000 a year.
