COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A number of local Vietnam veterans were on hand Friday morning for a short ceremony at the Branch County Courthouse as part of Vietnam Veteran’s Day, which was observed around the country.
Many Americans were opposed to the war in Vietnam. Unlike in other wars, Vietnam veterans were greeted with indifference and hostility when they came home.
Branch County Administrator Bud Norman told the vets they didn’t get the recognition they needed to get when they returned from the war and Friday’s observance was one way they could that recognition.
The Coldwater chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution hosted the ceremony. Lapel pins were given thru the commemorative partner program www.VietnamWar50th.com.
