COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Hours after appearing on the Fox Business Network in the wake of President Trump’s Thursday night rally in Grand Rapids, Michigan GOP Chair Laura Cox told Branch County Republicans during their annual Lincoln Day dinner at the Dearth Community Center on Friday night that the 2020 campaign is now underway.
She pointed out 58th District State Representative Eric Leutheuser can not run again in 2020 because he will be term limited and that someone with similar values will need to be recruited to run.for the open seat.
While she will try and help Trump win Michigan again, Cox said her top job in next year’s election is to keep the Michigan House in Republican hands. Otherwise, according to her, control of the state would effecively shift to Governor Gretchen Whitmer, Attorney General Dana Nessel, and Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson.
Cox took over a party that is trying to recover after last November’s blue wave which ushered Democrats into the top state offices.
