COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Board of Commissioners is looking over options concerning an additional $25,000 needed in funding for the repaving of the crosswind runway at the Branch County Memorial Airport.
County Administrator Bud Norman told Commissioners during their work session Friday there were three options to consider for formal action April 23.
Norman said the low bid for the project came in about $200,000 above the engineering estimate of about a $1 million.
He added the Michigan Department of Transportation delayed the bid letting twice since November 2018 due to internal administration issues and Airport Manager Joe Best felt those delays and the bad winter weather drove the cost up. He also pointed out this has pushed the Airport’s next project up for a year.
The engineer for the runway repaving project is scheduled to meet with Commissioners during their April 19 work session.
