QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – A fire late Tuesday afternoon which destroyed a garage and three vehicles inside was one of three blazes the Quincy Fire Department has had to respond to in the last couple of days.
Crews were called at about 4:45 p.m. to 549 Phillip Road south of Grove Roads for a garage fire. They were told while traveling to the blaze that it had spread to an adjacent home. When they arrived, firefighters found several cars on fire and a collapsed garage.
The fire had gotten into the house but it was quickly put out. A home occupant suffered slight burns to the hand while trying to move a vehicle. He was treated by medics at the scene. Fremont, Indiana and Lakeland crews provided mutual aide with tankers and manpower. The cause of the fire is under investigation but it is not considered suspicious in nature.
Shortly after the Phillip Road fire was knocked down, Quincy crews were called to the 800 block of Clarendon Road for a large brush fire that was reported to be moving towards a cornfield. Coldwater firefighters responded with an engine and grass truck for mutual aid. One person was treated for smoke inhalation on the scene by Lifecare Ambulance.
Quincy crews on Monday were called to a reported garage fire that had spread to a dwelling in the area of North Ray Quincy and Jonesville Roads. An old garage was fully involved in flames and collapsed when firefighters arrived.
The blaze was contained to the outbuilding and did not damage a nearby home. Officials say a nearby brushfire spread and set the building on fire.
