COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Board of Commissioners Tuesday approved requests to fill vacant positions from County Administrator Bud Norman.
One request was to fill the Senior Account Clerk position as current clerk Verna Winger will be retiring July 1, 2019. Commissioners agreed that whoever is hired would start at $15.03 per hour with the new hire benefit package.
The current position is a UAW Supervisory unit position. Norman is requesting that the position be changed to a non-union position because the newly hired person would have a hand in union negotiations.
During the March 29 work session, commissioners expressed concerns about having the position start at a higher rate then what the county pays for some Sheriff’s department and 911 positions.
Commissioners also approved a request to fill the full time Account Clerk position which will become vacant Friday. The position has a starting wage of $12.77 per hour with new hire benefits.
Norman’s request to hire a contract employee to help in the Payroll department while they look for and hire a new account clerk was also approved. The position would be for no more than 15 hours per week at $18.75 per hour, with no benefits. The contract would end once the new account clerk is hired and 40 hours of training has taken place.
