HASTINGS, MI (WTVB) – In high school baseball, Coldwater got back to the .500 mark with an Interstate 8 doubleheader sweep at Hastings Thursday as they defeated the Saxons 14-2 and 9-5.
Hunter St. Clair was the winning pitcher in the opener as he struck out seven in 4 1/3 innings of work. He also collected a pair of hits. Brock Thornton struck out five in his inning and two-thirds on the mound. Marshall Hoard, Breydyn Cook and Aiden Marsden all drove in two runs.
Austin Santure was the winning pitcher in the second game as he recorded 11 strikeouts in six innings. He also helped his own cause at the plate with two doubles and three RBI’s.
The Cardinals are now 4-4 overall and 2-0 in the Interstate 8.
The Coldwater J.V. team also swept Hastings by scores of 16-4 and 11-2. Cole Smith led Coldwater in game one with three hits followed by Logan Farmer with two hits. Rylan Brockway earned the game one victory.
Brockway and Smith led the Cardinals in the second game with two hits apiece. Brynden Massey earned the win on the mound in game 2.
Quincy lost both ends of a non-conference doubleheader at Centreville by scores of 6-0 and 7-1. The Orioles record dropped to 1-6.
