COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Parts of west and northern Michigan are digging out from a Sunday snowstorm that dumped at least eight inches of new snow in Big Rapids, Harrison, and Newaygo.
The return of wintry weather is being blamed for two deadly crashes in west Michigan on Sunday. In one, a 76-year-old Battle Creek man was killed on M-37 south of Caledonia in Barry County.
Dispatchers say officers responded to hundreds of crashes in on Sunday due to the weather.
The National Weather Service says another two-to-three inches are possible this morning in Alpena, Gaylord, Mio and Rogers City.
Light snow was first reported at the Branch County Memorial Airport at about 5:00 a.m. Sunday morning.
Sunday featured a mixed bag of light snow and rain as temperatures stayed in the 30s.
More light snow fell Sunday evening and during the overnight hours as the wind chill dipped to as low as 23 degrees.
It was cold enough that the snow covered the ground overnight.
