COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Jonesville woman has entered a no contest plea to a charge of animal neglect in Branch County District Court.
49-year-old Tammy Barnhill is scheduled to be sentenced on April 29th.
She was charged following an investigation by the Branch County Sheriff’s Department into a report of about a dozen neglected horses in a Butler Township field.
The horses were discovered in the last week of January during the polar vortex that saw wind chills dip to as low as 40 degrees below zero.
One of the horses was said to be malnourished. Investigators say the horses had no food, unfrozen water or shelter from the weather.
A preliminary exam for Barnhill was scheduled for Tuesday in District Court but was called off when she entered her plea last week.
