HILLSDALE, MI (WTVB) – State Representative Eric Leutheuser is praising an announcement of a $1.4 million investment in historical and economic development of downtown Hillsdale.
The funds will be used to restore the Dawn Theater.
The vacant structure will be transformed into a community venue for movies, special events, and private rentals.
Hillsdale city officials anticipate the creation of 27 new jobs through the investment.
Leutheuser is from Hillsdale and he calls it “a tremendous opportunity to honor and preserve our rich local history while starting a whole new chapter in the story of our town”.
The investment is part of a Community Development Block Grant from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation.
Plans call for the restoration of the original brick façade and windows, floor replacement, roof work and making the theater handicap accessible.
