COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater High School’s Lowe Field will be hosting a unique baseball doubleheader Friday night starting at 6:00 p.m..
The teams involved are two teams from the Northern Plains League affiliated with the National Club Baseball Association. The Association is a nationwide program that allows colleges to compete against each other in league play. It is all administered by students. Coaches and or player/coaches run the teams and participate in the games all the while administering rosters, schedules and travel information.
The doubleheader on Friday features Adrian College vs Grand Valley State University in a league match-up that could determine a possible Regional Berth. The added aspect of the game is that both Adrian and GVSU have a former Coldwater High School Player on the team. 2017 graduate Bryce Barringer plays infield for Adrian. He was a three year starter for the Cards who garnered several all-conference and all-district awards.
The Lakers are represented by Brendan Spangler, a 2016 graduate who also is the President and Coach of the Laker squad. He was a four year starter at Coldwater who earned all-league, all-district and all-region award honors as well as an all-state honor his senior year.
This program allows students who choose not to pursue the rigors of college baseball or are involved in classes too much to make the college team work for them.
Admission for Friday night’s doubleheader at Lowe Field is free.
