COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater Police issued a statement Monday which said they and the Branch County Prosecutor’s Office are actively investigating the February death of a five month old baby girl.
The deceased youngster has been identified by relatives as Luna Gray (Royer) King.
Police Chief Mark Bartell says his department got information February 13, 2019 an infant from Coldwater was at the University of Michigan Mott’s Children Hospital in Ann Arbor receiving treatment for serious life threatening injuries.
The baby was taken there by Life Care Ambulance after first getting treatment at ProMedica Coldwater Regional Hospital and then at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne.
Coldwater Police started their investigation at that time. It was learned the baby had numerous traumatic injuries. The infant died the following day on February 14.
Once all of the needed medical records have been received and interviews are conducted, Bartell says the investigation will be forwarded to the prosecutors office for review.
WOOD-TV reported Monday that according to documents the station obtained from Mott Hospital, the baby suffered at least nine broken ribs and a broken left elbow. They also reported an MRI also found injuries associated with head trauma and according to the doctors medical report, the findings were “consistent with child abuse.”
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services along with U of M Mott’s Children Hospital are assisting Coldwater Police with the investigation.
