COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Sheriff’s Department says there are a couple of scams residents should be aware of.
Detective Sergeant Dan Nichols says one is a Social Security scam in which scammers call and get you to verify your number and personal info so they can open accounts in your name.
The second is a realty scam, where the scammers check for homes for sale in area, then advertise the same home For Rent on a different website.
They ask for the first and last months rent in advance, then take off with your money.
Nichols says you will never get a call from Social Security and the I.R.S., they would mail you.
If you have questions, call Nichols at the Sheriff’s Department. The number is (517) 278-2325, extension 2252.
