CALIFORNIA TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – Michigan State Police, along with other law enforcement agencies, are looking for the driver of a black passenger car that struck a horse drawn carriage head on in California Township near the Indiana border Wednesday night and then drove off.
Troopers say the hit and run accident took place on Hamman Road near State Line Road at about 10:00 p.m..
They say the car was traveling north on Hamman Road when it crossed the center line and struck the southbound carriage.
The carriage was transporting two adults and six children between the ages of one month to seven years.
No injuries were reported by the State Police.
The driver of the car did not stop and continued north on Hamman Road. The vehicle is believed to have sustained front end damage, including a missing headlight and side mirror. There is also damage to the front driver side tire.
