CONCORD, MI (WTVB) – Quincy registered a pair of one-run victories at Concord, taking the opener 2-1 and the nightcap 3-2. Chandler Locke gave up 1 run on 3 hits with 1 walk and 6 strikeouts in the first game, while Matt Hagaman drove in 2 runs and Trenton Adkins had a single and a double. Locke had 3 hits in the second game, including the game-winning one-out single in the bottom of the 8th inning. Caleb McCavit also had three hits while pitching all 8 innings, allowing 5 hits with no walks and 7 strikeouts. The doubleheader sweep improved the Orioles’ record to 10-11 overall, 5-5 in the Big 8.
Union City were swept by Big 8 co-leader Homer 11-2 and 7-1. In the opener, Homer broke a 2-2 tie in the sixth inning, then scored 8 in the next frame to blow the game open. Larson Kever and Brady Katz had the only hits for the Chargers, while Kever took the loss on the hill. Avery Stuart had a pair of hits in the nightcap, while Brady Katz singled and scored the lone Charger run. Brendan Stuchell was charged with the loss. Union City drops to 12-9 overall, 6-4 in the Big 8.
SOFTBALL
Quincy swept to victory at Concord, 17-0 and 10-1. Kelsey Mainstone tossed a one-hitter in the opener with no walks and 7 strikeouts. In the nightcap, Morgan Michael struck out 11 and walked 1 batter while giving up one run on 4 hits.
Union City split their doubleheader with Homer, dropping the opener 9-3 before taking the nightcap 17-2. Hannah Blair had a single and a double in the first game, while Sydney Markley added a double. Quinnlyn Adams took the loss, but she bounced back with a double in the second game along with Markley and Hope Austin. Kaylee Eagen got the win as the Chargers’ record stands at 4-16-1 overall, 3-7 in the Big 8.
