COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater Director of Public Safety Mark Bartell, who will be retiring at the end of next month after over four decades in law enforcement, expressed his appreciation to the City Council and other city officials Monday night.
Bartell says he was amazed at all of the changes that have taken place noting that when he was first sworn in as a police officer 41 years ago, he was wearing a leisure suit.
He asked the Council to focus on officer safety in the future and took the time to thank his fellow officers.
Bartell began his law enforcement career with the East Lansing Police Department. He then served the Branch County Sheriff’s Department under the supervision of Sheriff Norm Heinemann.
Bartell began his career with the City of Coldwater in 1981. He eventually became Director of Public Safety in 2012.
