COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Coldwater man was ordered to be held without bond during his arraignment Tuesday on an armed robbery charge in Branch County District Court.
54-year-old James Hanna is being held in the Branch County Jail following his arrest Monday night.
Coldwater Police have released more details about the Monday afternoon robbery which led to Hanna’s arrest at his Peckham Street home.
Police say the armed robbery of a woman took place just after 4:00 p.m. on South Jefferson Street. The alleged victim told police she had been robbed by a man who brandished a firearm and took money from her.
The subject fled the scene in a maroon colored Dodge Stratus. A short time later, Coldwater Police Department officers located a vehicle matching the description near a residence on Peckham.
Officers tried to contact the suspect at the residence and saw someone matching his description inside the residence. Police say he would not answer the door or speak to officers at the scene.
After about one hour, officers were able to peacefully negotiate with three men inside the residence to come out. The three were detained without incident. Coldwater Police said they then executed a search warrant and found items believed to be involved with the robbery.
After interviews were conducted, Hanna was arrested and taken to the Branch County Jail. Coldwater Police were assisted at the scene by the Branch County Sheriff’s Department and Michigan State Police
