COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – In high school baseball Saturday, Coldwater went 2-1 in the their Stout and Sons Invitational Tournament.
Schoolcraft defeated Coldwater 11-6 in their first game thanks to a 10-run first inning. Austin Roby three hits and two RBI’s while Brady McFarland and Zach Rigot each had two hits.
Coldwater bounced back to defeat eventual tournament champion Carleton-Airport 5-4. Rigot was the winning pitcher with seven strikeouts in 6-plus innings. McFarland had a two run single which capped a five run Cardinal fourth. Brady Warner and Aiden Marsden both had two hits.
Based on the least runs allowed tiebreaker, Coldwater played Sturgis in the fifth place game at Borden Field and defeated the Trojans 8-7 on another perfectly executed squeeze bunt in the last of the seventh by Breydyn Cook. Logan Farmer had two hits and three RBI’s. Nate Tappenden also had two hits.
Bronson won their Polish Classic by defeating the Kalamazoo Central/Loy Norrix 3-0 and Three Rivers 16-11 in the finals.
Quincy played a couple of games in the Jackson area after the Al Glick baseball and softball tournaments were cancelled for the first time in its 25 year history because of rain. The Orioles lost to Jackson 9-0 but defeated Michigan Center 3-1.
Union City’s doubleheader at Pittsford was rained out.
GIRLS SOFTBALL—
Coldwater went 2-1 in their invitational tournament. After losing to eventual tournament champion Sturgis 12-0, the Cardinals defeated DeWitt 14-1 as Alyssa Bach had three hits and three RBI’s. Mia Rzepka was the winning pitcher.
The Cardinals then defeated Battle Creek Lakeview 15-9. Bach collected three hits against the Spartans while Jayla Foster had three RBI’s. Lily Gimenez was the winning pitcher.
Bronson won their Polish Classic championship by defeating Loy Norrix 3-1 and Buchanan 3-2. Lynsey Smith and Aubrey Ballou were the winning pitchers. Dakota Smith had three hits including two doubles against Buchanan while Dakoda Kline and Smith both had two hits. Bronson’s record is now 19-10.
Quincy’s games in the Jackson County Al Glick Tournament were rained out.
Union City’s doubleheader with Pittsford was rained out.
