COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A proposal to raise the maximum height of residential accessory buildings to 16 feet was approved Monday night by the City of Coldwater’s Planning Commission.
There has been talk during the last year of raising the height limit by four feet.
City Planner Dean Walrack said the origin of the amendment was from a large number of petitions to the Zoning Board of Appeals, frequent conversations between residents and the Neighborhood Services Department, and an identification of the numerous legally nonconforming structures throughout the City’s neighborhoods.
The Planning Commission recommended last October that the maximum height of Residential Accessory Structures be raised to 16 feet, which was down from the original request of 20 feet that was made about a year ago.
Also Monday night, the Planning Commission approved a Special Land Use Permit request from Alexia’s Enterprises to conduct seasonal outdoor merchandise sales for the property at 78 West Chicago Street. Business owner Alexia Rish plans to conduct sales within a fenced-in portion of the property she and her husband own between their building and the Upson Plaza.
