COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – After a holiday weekend that featured scrattered showers all three days, Branch County was under a tornado watch Monday night, but no severe weather was reported locally.
Monday was the 20th day out of the 27 so far in May that it has rained in Coldwater according to www.accuweather.com.
The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning Monday night for southwestern Saint Joseph County during the 7:00 p.m. hour.
The severe weather stayed well to the south of Branch County as storms and tornados tore across central Indiana and Ohio.
It could be a while before police and local leaders know just how bad the damage is from the central Indiana storms. There were a handful of tornado reports. The town of Pendleton in Madison County took a direct hit. There are no reports of any deaths in Pendleton, but local emergency managers say as many as 75 homes have been destroyed.
Central Ohio is cleaning up after a strong line of severe weather passed through the region overnight. The National Weather Service confirmed at least one tornado touched down with extensive damage in the Dayton area.
