COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Two new K-9’dogs are now on duty at the Branch County Sheriff’s Department thanks to private donations.
The Sheriff’s Department has brought back a K-9 program at the jail. The dog, which is named “Cane”, is being used for only for the search of contraband. Corrections Officer Shane Norton is his handler.
The handler class cost $5,000. Half of the money came out of a jail training fund with the other half coming out of the inmate commissary fund.
Meanwhile, K-9 Choas is now a member of the road patrol. His handler is Scott Jaye.
Scott LaRoe from Magnum K-9 Training in Quincy trained the two dogs.
