COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Board of Commissioners approved a resolution regarding the establishment of the Lake George lake level during their meeting Tuesday.
They also approved a request to have the Lansing area law firm of Fahey, Schultz, Burzych and Rhodes represent the Commissioners after it was felt the firm was better suited to handle the issue. There would be no cost to the county.
The resolution which was approved Tuesday requires in part that petitioners provide a $10,000 cash deposit to the county to assist with the cost of preparing a petition and related documents. In addition, the Drain Commissioner would be designated as the authority to perform all duties related to the lake level.
The legal lake level is the last step in the process involving the states of Michigan and Indiana in order to fund repairs to the Lake George dam that was built in 1927 on the Indiana side of the lake.
