Jack Edward Bronson, 84, of Sherwood Township, passed away at home Wednesday, May 29, 2019 under the care of family and Great Lakes Caring Hospice.
A public memorial gathering will be held at a later date.
Jack was born on October 29, 1934 in Battle Creek, MI to John and Miriam (Hagerman) Bronson. He graduated from Union City High School in 1952 and joined the Air National Guard during the Korean War.
On December 1, 1957, Jack married the former Phyllis Wood at the First Congregational Church in Union City. The couple and their six children lived on the family’s Sherwood Township dairy and crop farm.
Jack grew regionally popular sweetcorn for three decades and was known as “The Sweetcorn Man.” In addition to farming, he enjoyed fishing and watching his kids’ and grandkids’ sporting events. He loved the community he lived in and donated generously to it.
Left to carry on the proud Bronson family legacy are Jack’s wife of 61 years, Phyllis; his children, Eric (Darby Bayliss) Bronson of Marshall, Melanie (Mike) Bauer of Muskegon, Melissa (Jeff) Jamerson of Sherwood and Joanna (T.J. Hathaway) Bronson-Hathaway of Coldwater; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and brothers-in-law, Cecil Hill of Coldwater and LaVern Hill of Marshall.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents; two children, John (1) and Marla (2 ½); and his sisters, Margaret Hill, Mary Ellen Gilroy and Nancy Hill.
Memorial donations are suggested to the Village of Union City Senior Center Project in care of the Branch County Community Foundation, 2 W. Chicago Street, Suite E1, Coldwater, MI 49036 or to Great Lakes Caring Hospice, 6120 Stadium Drive #100, Kalamazoo, MI 49009.
