Catherine Joann Lawrence (McGillis),
44, of Union City, died Monday, June 3, 2019 at Ascension Borgess Hospital following a sudden illness.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM on Wednesday, June 26, 2019 at Lighthouse Funeral & Cremation in Union City.
Catherine was born on May 30, 1975 in Kalamazoo, MI to Michael and JoAnn (Marcincavage) Lawrence. She grew up in Kalamazoo, graduated from Parchment High School in 1994 and spent the majority of her life living in Kalamazoo until moving to Union City in 2016.
On November 16, 2017, Catherine married Joseph McGillis in Branch County. She was a fun-loving, outgoing person who really lit up a room. She loved going to concerts and was involved in the Kalamazoo music scene. She loved the lake here in Union City and Lake Michigan.
Survivors include Catherine’s husband, Joseph McGillis; her children, Michael McGillis (2) of Union City, Jazmine (Nate) Duncan of Plainwell and Heighley McNiece of Kalamazoo; her step-children, Alyssa Oldshield and Louis McGillis, both of Wayland; three brothers, a grandchild, Luna Duncan; her mother, JoAnn (Tom Waldo) Marcincavage of Grand Junction; her in-laws, Michael (Patricia) McGillis of Union City; and a sister-in-law, Michelle McGillis of Battle Creek.
She was preceded in death by her father and her sister.
