COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Branch County officials have finally found a location for the county’s Michigan Indigent Defense Commission office.
County Administrator Bud Norman told the Branch County Planning Commission Wednesday that it will be at 61 East Chicago Street, which used to be the location where Coldwater McDonald’s restaurant owner and operators Jim and Laura Maynard had their offices.
The county previously looked at using the second floor of the Courthouse Annex and the northwest corner of the former Pines Behavior Health building for the Public Defender office.
Norman says they are pleased with the location of the public defender’s office as it’s just across the street from the courthouse and there’s parking at that location.
Jim Maynard told the Coldwater Planning Commission last September they were “busting at the seams” at that location and they needed more room for their supervisors and managers as well as to train employees. The lack of space was one of the reasons the Maynards relocated their offices to East Chicago and Rose Street, which is just west of the McDonald’s restaurant.
