COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) -The Branch County Board of Commissioners voted during their work session Thursday to bring annexation requests from Quincy and Union City forward to next week’s regular meeting.
The Quincy Village Council passed a resolution May 21 in favor of annexing five parcels that cover 253 acres of land.
Work on the annexations has taken almost two years.
Quincy Village Manager Eric Zuzga says the annexation will allow them to clean up some property issues which include getting the village out to a closed down cement plant.
Zuzga said it has been an eyesore for years and annexing the property will allow the village to clean it up and redevelop it.
The Union City annexation request concerns a small piece of property at 1268 Arbogast Road which is currently in Union Township.
MA-Michigan asked the village for the annexation and a special use zoning approval in April for a stackable Class C cannabis cultivation license under the Michigan Medical Marijuana Program.
The Union City Village Council asked their attorney this spring to review a proposed medical marijuana ordinance.
Village Manager Chris Mathis recently said medical marijuana would only be allowed in areas zoned industrial.
After the county takes action on the annexation of the Arbogast property, a public hearing is scheduled to take place during the Union City Village Council meeting in July.
