Lois Jane Hazen, 59, of Lake Panasoffkee, FL, formerly of Burlington, MI, passed away on Friday, May 31, 2019 in Gainesville, FL, following several years of declining health.
Per her wishes, her body has been donated to medical research at the University of Florida Shands Hospital, with cremation to follow. A public memorial service is not scheduled at this time.
Lois was a Thanksgiving baby, born on November 26, 1959 in Marshall, MI to Athol and Helen (Crofoot) Hazen, Jr. She grew up in Eckford Township and attended Tekonsha High School, graduating in 1978. Lois was employed over 30 years in the warehouse and shipping and receiving at Tekonsha Engineering, later Cequent.
Outgoing, outspoken and funny, she enjoyed her interactions with co-workers, especially Clara Edwards, which led to helping crew the Edwards Family’s Plum Crazy Hot Air balloon. Lois liked bowling, dressing up for Halloween, video games, playing euchre and cribbage, board games, family genealogy and Civil War history. She watched unexplained mystery TV shows and read true crime stories. She was a longtime member and Past Master of the Fredonia Community Grange #1713.
Outdoors, Lois enjoyed beach walks, shelling and picking up rocks. She like watching her great-nephews’ ball games and was a huge Detroit Lions and Green Bay Packers fan. Lois also liked fishing and a good campfire, but hated camping. Prior to her life-limiting illness, she was a happy-go-lucky person who was always doing her own thing.
Lois is survived by her father, Athol Hazen, Jr., of Marshall; her siblings, Mary Lyke of Lake Panasoffkee, FL, Les Hazen of Marshall and Rich Hazen of Marshall; her nieces and nephews, Chris Hazen of Tekonsha, Nathan Hazen of Marshall, Sarah (Ben) Bray of Leesburg, FL and Zachary Hazen of Granby, CO; great-niece and nephews, Kyle and Gabriel Bray, Evan, Johnathan and Bella Hazen.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Helen Hazen.
Memorials are suggested to the University of Florida Foundation, 100 University of Florida Blvd., Gainesville, FL 32606, with “F003771” in the memo line of the check to designate it to trauma and abdominal studies, overseen by Dr. Rosenthal, who took great care of Lois in Florida.
The Hazen family is being assisted by Forest Meadows Funeral Home in Florida and Lighthouse Funeral & Cremation in Michigan.
