COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Academic achievements as well as on-field honors highlighted the Coldwater High School girls soccer banquet this week.
For the eighth straight year, the team was named Academic All State by the Michigan High School Soccer Coaches Association, with a combined grade point average of 3.608. That also earned the team Academic All American status for the second year from United Soccer Coaches, the nationwide organization of soccer coaches.
Seniors Sydney Akers, Jayda Kelly, and Samantha Rodesiler were also named Individual Academic All State, while all three plus Megan Barnes, Marissa Cox, Anna DeMeester, Juana Mancera, Masyn Marsh, Allison Miller, and Amber Sunderland were named Interstate 8 Academic All Conference.
On the field, Kelly and Rodesiler were selected to the All District Team, while Kelly, Rodesiler, and Anna DeMeester were named Interstate 8 All Conference Honorable Mention.
In awards voted on by their teammates, DeMeester and Allison Miller were named co-Rookies of the Year, Rayne Snyder was picked Most Improved, Rodesiler was named Best Offensive Player, Kelly selected Best Defensive Player, and Amber Sunderland named Hardest Worker. Jayda Kelly was selected Most Valuable Player, while Malorie Rzepka received The Cardinal Way Coach’s Award.
For the junior varsity team, Taylor Robison was named Most Valuable Player, with Leeah Kelley named Most Improved, Bridgette Meyers picked as Best Defensive Player, Grace Ortiz as Best Offensive Player, and Lissbet Ramos selected as Hardest Worker.
The varsity team finished with a 7-14-2 overall record, with the junior varsity team at 6-6-3.
