COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Public hearings have been scheduled for Monday’s City of Coldwater Planning Commission meeting on a pair of special use permits for a proposed convalescent care facility and for the operation of a drive through restaurant.
Gates Prime Commercial Group plans to operate a Convalescent Care Facility at 300 Vista Drive which is off of North Michigan Avenue and north of Grahl Drive. City Planner Dean Walrack says in his report for Monday’s meeting that the site is presently vacant. While no site plan has been submitted, Walrack says the application indicates that a 15,000 square foot facility is to be built with 20 parking spaces.
Full Site Plans must be developed and submitted to the Planning Commission for review within a year or else the special use permit, if granted, would expire.
Meanwhile, Todd Haidous wants to operate a Dairy Queen drive-through restaurant at the site of the soon-to-be-demolished Coldwater Recreation Lanes at 559 East Chicago. Walrack says the parent parcel has been split and this development will occupy the east lot. Haidous also owns the DQ store in Angola.
Ironically, the site of the former Dairy Queen store at 152 South Division is also on Monday’s agenda as the Planning Commission is scheduled to consider a request by Doctor Baron Whateley to build a 2,850 square foot orthodontics office and surgery building at that location. The old DQ store was torn down last August. Walrack says the demolition left the shed, the fence, and much of the parking lot intact.
