COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Members of the City of Coldwater Planning Commission spent nearly a half hour Monday night venting their frustrations to a consultant about some of the ordinances and zoning policies that have developed over the years.
It was those frustrations that led the city to bring in Giffels Webster of the Detroit area to see if some ordinances can be streamlined and brought up to date.
Jill Bahm from Giffels Webster encouraged Commission members to start by reading the city’s Master Plan because that would be the first place they would start.
She wants to hear detailed examples of good and bad zoning in the community.
Among the issues brought up Monday were landscaping requirements, sidewalks, and sign ordinances. No action was taken by the Planning Commission. The entire process with Giffels Webster is expected to take several months.
After getting their feedback, the firm will come back to the Planning Commission with options that will be discussed and acted upon during a later meeting. Those changes, if any, would also need City Council approval.
