TEKONSHA, MI (WTVB) – Michigan State Police say a Tekonsha man is facing an assault less than murder charge following an incident in Branch County north of Coldwater.
47-year old Byron Welch was arrested Wednesday at his home and arraigned Thursday in Branch County District Court on one count of Assault To Do Great Bodily Harm Less Than Murder.
According to troopers, Welch got in an argument last Saturday at the Girard Township home of the alleged victim identified as 51-year old Barry Justice. State Police said the girlfriend of Justice called 911 to report that he had been beaten by Welch during an argument the night before regarding how the woman had backed up a trailer into Justice’s driveway.
Troopers said Justice was taken to ProMedica Coldwater Regional Hospital for treatment of serious facial injuries.
Welch was released from the Branch County Jail after posting a $15,000 ten percent allowed bond. He’s scheduled to appear in Branch County District Court for a probable cause hearing June 27, with a preliminary examination set for July 2, 2019.
