COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A resolution was passed by the Coldwater City Council Monday night which approved over $237,000 from the city’s Revolving Loan Fund that is part of the federal government’s Community Development Block Grant program for a proposed inflatable aquatics playground, beach and outdoor recreational facility on South Michigan Avenue in Coldwater Township.
The Aqua Pit would operate on a 112 acre lake and will be located on the site of a former gravel mine and aggregate plant.
Aqua Pit owner Seth Berry has applied through Northern Initiatives, Incorporated for the money which will aid in financing equipment and working capital for the project.
Berry told the Council they want to create a destination.
The Aqua Pit would feature inflatables that are structured similar to an obstacle course, jungle gym, and playground. In addition to the inflatable in-water playground, the owner intends on turning the lake into beach
Berry hopes the seasonal business will be ready for an opening in May of next year.
City Manager Keith Baker says projects that benefit Coldwater and the surrounding region do not have to be located within Coldwater to be eligible for the funding.
He says the project location still requires further approval for consistency with the Coldwater Township Comprehensive Plan and Zoning Ordinance.
The Aqua Pit would have seven full time employees. This is the first use of C.B.D.G. Revolving Loan Funds since the Tasty Twist expanded in 2017.
