UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) – Hundreds of bicyclists from across the state rolled into Union City yesterday on the third day of the 2019 edition of Pedal Across Lower Michigan.
The cyclists began their weeklong trip in South Haven Saturday, stopped in Lawton Sunday, and then Union City Monday. Tuesday they will be heading to Jonesville, Adrian on Wednesday, Dundee on Thursday, and finishing in Luna Pier on the shores of Lake Erie Friday. They generally camp at schools each night.
PALM always begins along the shore of Lake Michigan and heads east along a different route from the previous year. Typical routing includes paved, lesser used roads and generally avoids major urban areas. The total distance of the ride is between 250 and 300 miles. Daily rides range from 30 to 60 miles, averaging approximately 50 miles per day. They also provide longer optional routes each day.
Organizers in Union City provided the riders with a pulled pork lunch, yoga and stretching, karaoke, and a concert at the Marv Carmen Memorial Park.
