HILLSDALE, MI (WTVB) – Charges against a Reading woman in connection with the shooting of her brother May 26 have been dropped by the Hillsdale County Prosecutors Office.
Prosecutor Neal Brady said in a written statement that he dismissed Assault with Intent to Commit Murder, Felony Firearm and Possession of a Firearm While Intoxicated charges against 55-year-old Tamra Jo Vanbuskirk because it appears at this time his office can not carry the burden of proving them.
Brady went on to say Vanbuskirk believed she was in serious danger of death or serious injury by her 54-year-old brother Stephen Patrick Wertz during a domestic violence incident.
Vanbuskirk was taken into custody at a residence on Balcom Road after Hillsdale County Sheriff’s Deputies found Wertz on the deck of the home after he was shot in the torso.
After getting emergency medical treatment from deputies until EMS crews arrived, Wertz was taken to Hillsdale Community Hospital before being transferred to the University of Michigan Burn and Trauma Unit in Ann Arbor. The Hillsdale Daily News reports he is expected to make a full recovery.
