COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Downtown Development Authority gave their approval to a proposal from City Manager Keith Baker Wednesday to have a portion of North Hanchett become a one way street to help alleviate the loss of parking during the construction of the Lofts at Milnes Plaza development.
Baker presented the idea after near by business owners approached him.
He said this would be similar to what was done on South Monroe between U.S. 12 and Pearl during the Chandler Plaza parking lot project.
While South Monroe has angled parking, Baker said there would be parallel parking on Hanchett near the Lamplighter Lounge.
According to Baker, the one way traffic would head north between U.S. 12 and Harrison in order for drivers to access the Upson parking lot. The parallel parking would feature a dozen stalls.
Baker said the one way traffic on North Hanchett would be temporary. The proposal would need final approval by the Coldwater City Council.
The one way traffic on South Monroe started out as a temporary solution to a parking problem in downtown Coldwater but eventually it became permanent after the city got positive feedback to the one way street.
