COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Economic Development Assistant Audrey Tappenden told the Coldwater Downtown Development Authority Board on Wednesday that those who took part in an online survey about downtown bike racks during the past month preferred a hoop rack which is otherwise known as a U rack.
The racks will be ordered and installed in the near future.
The survey also asked respondents where they would to see the racks installed.
Tappenden said the top preferences were the area of El Cerrito restaurant, the east side of South Monroe, the Tibbits Opera House, in front of Jeannie’s Diner, the Coach Eby Youth and Family Center, the Northwoods corner and the Branch District Library.
The DDA Board decided last month to spend up to $3,000 from the general downtown maintenance fund for the installation of the street front bike racks.
It was estimated six bike racks would be installed downtown.
While bicyclists may ride on streets downtown, a city ordinance prohibits the riding of bicycles, skateboards, and roller skates in public parking lots and sidewalk areas of the downtown business district.
Tappenden said last month it was important to make the downtown welcoming to its cyclists. She pointed out that cyclists are not only shoppers and diners, they also represent a portion of the downtown workforce.
