COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Branch County District Court Judge Brent Weigle addressed Coldwater Noon Rotarians this week on several court matters, but also spoke in general about what he believes is the central issue of our time.
Judge Weigle updated Rotarians at their regular Tuesday meeting on what’s happening statewide on reforms concerning indigent defense and bail and how they apply to Branch County. Weigle, who has been on the bench for a decade, then concluded his remarks by saying in the U.S. right now there is a clash of ideologies on the question of whether or not there is such a thing as objective truth and a there’s a difference of opinion on whether or not truth is relative.
According to Weigle, we are getting to the point where if you tell the truth on certain issues, you are labeled a misogynist, or a racist, a homophobe, whatever, if you tell the truth about anything, you are going to get labeled.
Judge Weigle said in times like this, and he quoted author George Orwell, who wrote “telling the truth is a revolutionary act”.
Weigle has been a District Court judge in Branch County since 2009 and in November 2014 was re-elected unopposed for another six year term.
