Hundreds of classic cars are expected to be in the Coldwater area over the next couple of days as they take part in the 2019 Old U.S. 27 Motor Tour. The tour that winds its way north along Old 27 towards Cheboygan made a stop Monday evening at the Branch County Airport Cruise-in.
There will be another stop on Tuesday evening during the “Looks Like the 60’s Cruise-in” at Short’s Root Beer Stand between 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.. The group will take part in a poker run Wednesday. They will have have lunch at the Coldwater Broadway Grille before heading north.
Other stops along the tour include Dewitt, St. Johns, Ithaca, Alma, St. Louis, Clare, Harrison, Grayling, Gaylord, and finishing in Cheboygan Saturday afternoon.
Organizers of the tour say for many years, Old US-27 was the major north/south road connecting Michigan to Florida, running from Cheboygan to Miami. They say promotion of the nearly 308 mile route can result in increased traffic and tourism, much like what has occurred with the historic Route 66.
