COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A young man from Adrian entered into a plea agreement in Branch County Circuit Court Thursday in connection with a sex crime involving a then four-year-old boy last July in Sherwood Township.
19-year-old Jacob Beatty entered a no contest plea to a charge of attempted first degree criminal sexual conduct.
Sentencing is scheduled for September 30, 2019. The original first degree count will be dismissed by prosecutors as well as a charge of accosting a child for immoral purposes in exchange for the plea.
The warrant for his arrest was issued December 12, 2018 and he was arrested a few weeks later. Michigan State Police said at the time of Beatty’s arrest that the assault took place at a residence on Arney Road.
Investigators said the victim told his mother what happened and she immediately called the authorities.
