EAST LANSING, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater High School boys varsity soccer team went 2-1 Saturday to finish in third place in their bracket for the annual Eaton Rapids Division 2 Invitational held at the East Lansing Soccer Complex.
The Cardinals opened the day with a 1-0 win over Plainwell. Sophomore Ahmed Omar scored the lone goal, assisted by Mubarak Said.
Coldwater fell to eventual tournament winner Dewitt 1-0 in the semifinals, and then beat Ludington 5-0 in the third place game. Mubarak Said had three goals and one assist in the final game, while Amine Mohammed had one goal and one assist, and Ahmed Salem had the other goal. Mohamed Aljabaly and Mukhtar Abdulla also had assists.
Michael Orozco-Aburto had the shutouts in goal for the Cardinal wins.
The varsity team is now 3-2 on the season and will host Gull Lake Wednesday.
The Coldwater junior varsity team also had a third place finish at the Marshall Redhawk JV Invitational Saturday. The JV team beat Dewitt 3-2 in their opening game, with two goals for Ryadh Muflihi and one for Zeman Norman. The Cardinals then fell to eventual tournament winner East Lansing 3-1 in the semifinals, with their lone goal from Brayden Boyd.
Coldwater then beat Plainwell 3-0 in the third place game, with goals from Ahmed Umari, Brayden Boyd, and Naja Norman. Bauston Feldbauer was in goal for all three games and had 11 saves for the day.
The JV team is also 3-2 on the season and will also host Gull Lake Wednesday.
