COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater City Council is scheduled to introduce an ordinance for first reading Monday evening that would conditionally rezone nine-and-a-quarter acres of land at the site of the former Fremont School Building.
The Coldwater Planning Commission recommended the conditional rezoning from A-1 One Family Residential to A-3 Multi Family Residential on a 9-0 vote last Monday as MVAH Partners of Butler County, Ohio wants to buy the property from Coldwater Community Schools and convert the land into 48 ground level senior one and two bedroom apartments.
The rezoning request is contingent on the awarding of Michigan State Housing Development Authority tax credits.
Among the conditions approved by the Planning Commission was that construction would have to start by June 30, 2021.
If introduced, a hearing would be held and the ordinance would be up for second reading and adoption on September 9, 2019.
A previous proposed 70 unit housing development from NRP Properties was scrapped after their plans sparked a heated controversy a couple of years ago.
