COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A 24-year-old Coldwater man is facing four charges after he allegedly fired shots in a downtown alley and then led police on a chase along some residential streets early Sunday morning.
Joseph Dunn was arraigned Monday on charges of reckless use of a firearm, possession of a firearm while intoxicated, operating while intoxicated, and third degree fleeing and eluding. His bond was set at $25,000 with ten percent allowed.
His probable cause hearing is set for September 12, with a preliminary exam September 17, 2019.
Branch County Central Dispatch logs show the shooting incident took place in the 100 block of West Chicago at 2:53 a.m..
The Coldwater Police Department says as officers responded to the scene, the suspect fled the area in a black pickup truck. Dunn was eventually arrested when he pulled into his residence.
Police believe intoxicants may be involved. They managed to recover the frame of a disassembled Glock pistol, a loaded magazine and ammunition from the vehicle. The slide assembly was removed from the firearm and police believe the suspect may have thrown it out the window of the truck as he tried to flee.
Police say the pursuit was along Chicago Street east from Clay Street, then north on Sprague to Hull. It then went west on Hull to Morse to west on Hayton. Police ask that if someone finds the slide of the firearm, don’t touch it and call 9-1-1 immediately.
