COLDWATER TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Fire Department said in a press release which was issued Friday afternoon that the cause of the fire at 142 Burch Road was undetermined and that the damage was estimated at $162,000. That included $135,000 damage to the property.
Coldwater Fire Marshall Steve Trall says the Thursday afternoon fire was not suspicious in origin and that it started in the kitchen of the two story home which was constructed out of wood.
Firefighters found heavy fire and smoke at the rear of the structure when they arrived just after 4:00 p.m. The fire was called under control at 5:53 p.m.
There was heavy damage to the kitchen, dining room and second story of the home, which is owned by Colleen Albright.
LifeCare Ambulance stood by, but no serious injuries were reported. Sadly, officials say some of the tenants family pets perished in the fire.
David Weller, his fiance, and their five children had just gotten home when one of the youngsters discovered the fire. They are tryng to put their lives back together after being burned out of their residence. Efforts are being made to help them with donations of money and other items that they lost in the fire.
