COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater High School boys varsity soccer team started fast, scoring just 11 seconds into the game, and beat Hastings 7-0 Thursday to begin the Interstate 8 Conference portion of their season.
Dillon Lawhead got the first goal of the game, assisted by Mohamed Aljabaly. Aljabaly finished with two assists, while Saleh Mohammed had two goals and one assist, Mubarak Said had two goals, and Angel Rodriguez and Mohamed Nasser each had one goal.
Amine Mohammed had two assists and Dillon Lawhead had one.
Michael Orozco-Aburto and Ahmed Salem each had one save in the shutout, as Coldwater outshot Hastings 29-2. The Cardinals, ranked 15th in the first Michigan High School Soccer Coaches Association Division Two poll this week, improved to 4-3 on the season and 1-0 in the conference. They will play at Marshall Tuesday.
The Coldwater JV team beat Hastings 8-0 in a game that ended early on the mercy rule. Brayden Boyd, Brady Arver, and Joseph Closson each had two goals, with one each for Naja Norman and Hisham Zamzami.
Bauston Feldbauer and Cameron Linton shared time in goal with Linton making one save.
The Coldwater JV team will host their invitational tournament Saturday, with their first game against Fennville at 9:00 a.m.
