COLDSATER, MI (WTVB) – A former inmate at the Lakeland Correctional Facility will be serving more time in the Michigan Department of Corrections after he stabbed a fellow inmate almost a year ago in the prison’s exercise yard.
29-year-old Donald James Talaski Junior was ordered Monday in Branch County Circuit Court to serve five to ten more years in prison after he entered a guilty plea to a charge of assault less than murder.
An attempted murder charge was dismissed in exchange for the plea.
According to the Michigan Department of Corrections website, Talaski is locked up at the Oaks Correctional Facility in Manistee.
The sentence he received Monday will be consecutive to the current time he is serving. He was sentenced out of Tuscola County in May 2015 to a term of six years, four months to 15 years on a pair of weapons convictions including a count of a felon in possession of a firearm.
